Review: I purchased this item for my son. He is a died hard Angel fan at only 2 years old...well then, so are his parents. We absolutely loved this figurine and the others we also purchased. Unfortunatly we wont let him open them...but he loves to stare at it and say "ANGELS"! Very cool. Thanks!

Summary: Not a Toy but a Model

Review: Those of you who think they are purchasing an action figure are mistaken. This is a detailed model of one of the better hitters in the American League. Guerreor's model is accurate in every detail, including his shin guard, dirty jersey, and even the pine tar on his helmet (a nice touch I might add). His face is a very good rendition. His body type, inlcuding his legs and arms, are faithfully repreductions of the real thing. McFarlane did an excellent job creating this model and looks the best of all the Angel players available (Anderson and Glaus). It sits proudly on my desk at work!

Summary: M.V.P. Vladimir Guerrero really likes the American League
Date: 2005-06-08
Rating: 4
Review: The prototype Most Valuable Player for my money was Carl Yastrzemski for the Boston Red Sox in 1967. Not only did he win the Triple Crown but he carried his team through one of the tightest pennant races in history to win the American League history. Usually a player has the stats (e.g., Alex Rodriguez two years ago) or helps his team to the title (e.g., any year Yogi Berra won), but it seems they rarely do both. For the last month of the season everyone agreed that there were four prime candidates: Gary Sheffield of the New York Yankees, Manny Ramierez and David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox, and Vladimir Guerrero of the Anaheim Angels. But by the last week of the 2004 baseball season the race for M.V.P. was over.

Vladimir Guerrero signed with the Angels and got off to a fast start, being named the AL Player of the Month for April. At the end of the season he was third in the league in batting with a .337 average, fourth in home runs with 39, and fourth in runs batted in with 126. You can also add third in hits (206) and first in runs (124). But where Vlad the Impaler won this season's MVP award was during the pivotal six-game strength when the Angels traveled to Texas and Oakland during which the outfielder hit six home runs and drove in 11 runs. Troy Percival the Angels' reliever declared: ""Guerrero put us on his back, flat and simple. Unlike any great player I've ever seen. He shouldered us." Everybody who was talking about Sheffield a week earlier and were saying that Guerrero could not even be considered unless the Angels won their division, had to admit the guy delivered.

For the final month of the season Guerrero batted .371 (39 for 105), had a .431 on-base percentage, and a slugging percentage of .733. Scoring 24 runs while driving in 23, Guerrero hit six doubles, a triple and ten home runs, and also stole five bases. Most importantly, his team won the showdown with the Oakland A's in the final weekend of the season, the first time in a quarter-century that two teams were tied going into the final series of the season. For the season Guerrero hit .337, with 39 home runs and 126 runs batted in. Guerrero received 21 of a possible 28 first-place votes in balloting by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, leaving New York Yankees right fielder Gary Sheffield, who received five first-place votes, to finish as runner-up in the voting.

This second Vladimir Guerrero shows the right fielder for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim keeping an eye on the ball to see if it has gone far enough to leave Angel Stadium. This 6" figure has the usual detail we have come to expect from McFarlane's baseball figures, down to the label on Geurrero's sweatshirt and the guard he wears to protect his left instep. Of course there is dirt on his pants legs, because the artists at McFarlane Toys love to add dirty to these figures. McFarlane's MLB Series 11 also has the second figures for Ken Griffey, Jr. of the Cincinnati Reds, Mark Prior of the Chicago Cubs, Mike Piazza of the New York Mets, and American League M.V.P. Vladimir Guerrero of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Getting their first figures are Roy Hallady of the Toronto Blue Jays, Bill Wagner of the Philadelphia Phillies, and Johnny Damon of the Boston Red Sox.
