Summary: Not enough play for your dollars.

Review: This hardly kept any of the neighborhood kids interested in playing for more than 15 minutes. The age ranges were from 5-10, and they all went for the Thomas Trains or the Duplos. There really isn't anything you can build with these, except stars, spheres, etc... My kids prefer imaginative play with dinosaurs, lego people, action figures and they love the Snap Electronic Kits. I certainly couldn't see someone playing with these magnets for "hours". Oh, and please watch these with little children, the marble-shaped magnets are definitely a choking hazard.

Review: A great toy for everyone. I spend as much time as my son playing with it. The only real complaint I have is the ratio of rods to balls. 70 pieces is great, but it breaks down into 40 rods and 30 balls or something. Well, rods are far more useful than the balls are, and I ALWAYS end up with alot of spare balls, wishing I had more rods instead. That we cannot purchase JUST rods is a shame.

Summary: My Five Year Old Loves This Toy!

Review: The age recommendation for this toy says 8-12 years, but my five year old just loved it. 35 pieces isn't enough to do much, but he still had fun lining the pieces up into patterns and making small things. HUGE WARNING: This is not a good toy if you have a baby in the house! The metal balls are perfect choking size and I've had to put the entire set away until the baby is older.

Summary: Great toy for my 4 (now 5) year old

Review: We got my son this set last Christmas when he was 4 y.o. and he liked it so much that we got him the larger 225 piece set for his last birthday.
He will play with it for hours! He has built different shapes, a boat, a castle, and skyscraper, a large tent... he is always coming up with new creations.
The only downfalls:
1. His little sister loves it, too but she is only 15 months and too young for it.
2. We had a couple of the magnets pull out and my husband just superglued them back in.
My son loves his Legos but actually plays with this more and after almost 1 year it is still his favorite toy.
I would recommend this for a child that is 3- 5 instead of an older child as recommended by the manufacturer's suggested age. I think an older child would get tired of it quickly.

Summary: An idea to help keep the pieces together when playing

Review: We gave this building set to my son for his third birthday. I agree with another reviewer who said that this toy needs a carrying case. I have twin 7 month-olds who will soon be on the move, and I'll be nutso trying to keep up with the small pieces. To help alleviete this problem, I keep the pieces in the original box. When my 3 year-old wants to play with them, I put the pieces on a large cookie sheet with 1" sides. The rods stick to the sheet, and the sides of the cookie sheet keep the balls from rolling everywhere. Happy building!
