Summary: Best value toy we ever bought!

Review: My son received this for Christmas last year, when he was 4 1/2. He's now 5, and he plays with his Leapster every day. He's a visual learner, one who has trouble with listening in class. He learns what he sees and by memorization. This leapster has taken him light years ahead of where he was! He can see and interact...at 4 he was doing basic addition with the Nemo game. He's building words with the built-in game, and with Talking Words factory, he understands not only phonics but how to build words himself. He is building nonsense and logical words himself, a skill his teachers and therapist say are a 7-8 year old skill, all of which he learned from the Leapster. He is getting the L-Max for christmas, simply because he begged his grandparents so much and they spoil him rotten. We will keep the Leapster for his little sister. A tip: get the charger! You will love it...no batteries to buy or replace!
We have had no problems with it--even though he's a rough kid and has dropped it, thrown it, etc. This toy has taken a beating and held up to it.

Review: this falls in the catagory of tries to do to much and sucks at everything.
first of all, we purchased it for my sister for christmas, and she NEVER uses it. first of all, the touch screen barley works,(if you draw a line, it does the jaged thang)and the games are boring (the only games that my sister has ever played was the free game that came with it. they have already made another version of it. My sister always uses my DS (nintendo ds) or listen to my ipod. buy your kids a nintendo ds, and get your kids games that are fun to play rather than educational.

Summary: Appropriate for the Age on the Box

Review: I bought this for my 2 1/2 yr old as he is always stealing his 8 yr old brother's gameboy and playing it. I got it out early for xmas and decided it is too old for him. He can do the coloring activity, but all the others are too difficult (dragging the shapes, hopping on numbers, etc). My 8 yr old actually likes it though.
If you have a child that is 4-10 as it states on the box, it is awesome. It has great color and clarity on the screen, easy to use, durable..kind of bulky for my 2 yr old to carry, but appropriate for 4 yr old.
I have the Thomas the Train game for it too, that I will return, and I think a child would like it as they can drive the train around a track and add accessories.
I will wait another year or so to get my son this when he is 4.

Summary: What an INCREDIBLE toy!!!

Review: I bought this for my 5 year old and if I could give it 1 million stars I would!! The Leapster already comes with so many activities and levels that additional cartridges are optional - NOT a must at first. The screen's color/brightness is adjustable AND SO IS THE VOLUME!!! And I don't just mean the 2 level lo/high, but like 10 notches of volume (and can be used with headphones).
It is so easy to use, he never brings it to me to have to set up or explain (as with SO many other games) and there is a help button that repeats questions and instructions. He plays with it NON-STOP and would never put it down if I allowed him. His little friends take turns when they come over to play. Also... the cartridges all come in levels (prek-kinder, kinder-1st, etc) so you can buy more challenging games as you feel needed. I own almost everything Leappad had ever put on the market, and this is their best creation yet - hands down. It is SO educational, and SO fun that they don't feel like they're learning.
