Summary: Great, durable product, one of Santa's favorites, I'm sure

Review: My son has had this for about 2 1/2 years. He can do most of it by himself now (he's 4 1/2) and regularly uses it. The original pen that comes with the unit has a really long cord, which sometimes skews the useage of the books. The solution is really simple -- buy a replacement pen, the cord is shorter, but not so much that it doesn't work properly. It's easy to replace the pen, too. Battery life is good and the cartridges are pretty easy to change. A few times, my son wouldn't have the cartridge in all the way, but a quick, light push & it's all set. This is great for in the car or those days where he needs something new to keep him occupied. There is an extensive library of materials available in all age ranges. The microphone is a great addition, he loves hearing his own voice & singing songs with silly endings "London Bridge is Falling down, we gotta fix it." (We purchased the microphone separately that came with a 2-pack of books).
This would make a great present under the tree for any child.

Review: They are a wonderful tool to teach reading, reinforcing the relationship between the word on the page and the sound of the word. They will be used by both my kids (one of which is slightly behind in his speech development). I do advise getting some of the other books though.
We bought several of the books; the best ones for language development seem (so far) to be the Richard Scarry, Leap Frog & Pooh books. The Learning Life series doesn't have the phonetic or spelling options (on the 1 book in that series we bought).
Design considerations are good too, as it seems I can replace the "pen" with no more than a Phillips screwdriver if it gets damaged by an overzealous child. Overall it's nice & well designed. Wasn't too fond of the "Press the green button" bit, but at least it reminded you every time you change the page if you didn't do it right off. Love the headphone jack. Excellent learning tool. Various subjects motivate reading, music, listening skills and more. Great in the car while driving, or on a long plane ride.

Summary: One of the best toys around

Review: I have a 7 year old and a 3 year old. My grandmas bought this 2 years ago for the 7 year old and he loves it. It has helped him more in reading than anyother toy. Now, my 3 year old loves it also. He would rather play with it then his other learning toys. So, now the 3 year old will be getting a My First LeapPad. I love LeapPad products. My children have alot of toys and they are alittle spoiled from it, but out of all the toys this is one of the most played with and it is very duarable. My 3 year old has put it through the test he is very ruff.

Summary: A Great Educational Toy

Review: I purchased this Leappad for my daughter a few weeks ago because her teacher said she was having problems with her phonics sounds. I am glad she recommended this to me. Not only did my daughter learn her phonic sounds quickly, she is learning to sound out letters in words she doesn't know. I have no regrets about buying this for her. I would recommend this to anyone with a small child.

Summary: What a great educational tool!!

Review: I purchased this toy for my daughter's 4th birthday because she was having trouble remembering her letters. After a week of playing with this toy, she has already memorized most of the alphabet, including the lowercase letters. What a great toy! I can't say enough good things about this system. I only wish it wasn't as popular as it is, because it's hard to find some of the more popular books!!
